Configuring MX480

  • I have multiple networks and previously configured the MX240 OSPF with a number of access switches.  Very simple.

    Now I am trying to replace some garbage equipment at another site with Juniper and I have a combination of MX480’s for the core and a number of EX’s.

    I simply want to mirror the current network config though I do not like it.  This will make for an easier transition with limited time and resources.

    The problem is that I simply want the core to have a number of VLANS, trunk the vlans over fiber to the closet EX’s which have a single IP and ports with specific vlans.

    The MX480 out of the box does not have “Set VLAN” or J-Web.

    So the questions are:

    Does the J-Web exist and I do not know it or since I downloaded how do I either install from a usb drive or how do I copy?  I do not know the “source” of the usb.

    And…

    What am I missing with the absence of VLANS?  Do I need to specificy a Routing Instance?

    FYI…  MX480 running 9.6R1.13

    I have set interfaces family inet…

    Now i need set vlan so that I can set vlan id’s etc…

  • On the MX, Juniper says it is “Service Provider Switching” so you don’t have “set vlans” you have “set bridge-domains”.  Below is an example config.

    Hope this helps,
    Clay

    [edit interfaces]

    +      description “access port”
    +      encapsulation ethernet-bridge;
