Netscreen 10 unable to manage via Http, telnet.

  • We got a few NS10 running ScreenOS 2.6.1r13 and 3.0.1r7, the NS10 seems to fail to connect via http and telnet after using for sometime. The only way to http and telnet into the firewall is to reset it. Kindly advise.
    Thanks.

  • Sounds like you may have an issue with sockets not releasing for management.  You have a finite amount of sockets with which to use for management sessions.  I have seen in some software versions where the sockets aren’t releasing properly.  To check enter command get socket.  Look for sockets in the table but in closed state.  Normally the closed sockets should remove from the table after some time.  Now I have not used 2.6 or 3.0 much so not sure if that command exists.  Plus I do not know if they have a fix for that or not.  But I agree with previous comments.  Might be time for SW and/or HW upgrade as NS-10 and ScreenOS 2.6 and 3.0 have been EOL’d for some time now.

Time for a technology refresh man.  Especially running 2.6.  Holy crap.

When it stops responding to management, are you able to via anything via the console port that indicates a problem?
