I an trying to upgrade a 5GT from ScreenOS 5.2.0r2.0 to 5.3.0r3.0 via the Web UI but I am getting the message
‘The file is either empty or to big’
Looking at the release notes it suggest to upgrade to either 5.3.0-up or 5.2.0r3.0 but I am getting the same message on both.
Does anybody have any suggestions

Or update to 5.2r3 before updating to 5.3 as the juniper website says:
“Customers upgrading from ScreenOS 5.2r1/5.2r2 via webui must either upgrade first to 5.2r3 (or later) or load this step-up image prior to upgrading to 5.3r3. Please see Release Notes for details.”

 Read the release notes …
If you upgrade to 5.3 from 5.2 you MUST use a 5.3_UP image first !!!
Hope this helps.

Upgrade from the command line (historically it’s been more reliable to perform upgrades this way).
Setup a tftp server on your workstation.
Place the ScreenOS 5.3 image in the directory on your workstation where the tftp server expects to find the file.
On your firewall, issue the command below, substiting the appropriate IP address of your firewall and ns image name:
exec save software from tftp 192.168.1.254 ns??? to flash
