Difference Between VIP and MIP?

Can anyone explain the difference between a VIP and a MIP? Specifically, when would you use one versus the other?
The documentation isn’t too clear on this point.

I’ll give you a highly condensed explanation.
VIP- think of it as port forwarding, each listening port can be routed to a different host/server. An example could be a web-server, or several different servers are sharing a public IP if you are running short on public IPs.
MIP- one-to-one relation of a single IP or a span of IP-addresses. A typical example where you might use this is for a mail server. All incoming and outgoing traffic will be too/from the same public IP.
The C&E really does cover this quite well with loads of examples.
