Cannot add device- duplicate serial number error
I just installed NSM 2008r.1 and was adding a device, it detected it just fine. While it was adding the device I get this error “Device has duplicate serial number”

May I know where can I locate the deviceobj?
Thanks and Regards,

re-installing the NSM should be kept as the last resort, as it is a long, tiring process, and involves re-building of the database (unless it is a fresh install). for such errors, the user must try and edit the deviceobj container, and look for a tuple with the serial no., and delete it. If in future someone gets the similar error, put it on this post, and I shall put down the steps to edit the DB.

thats going to require editing the database. Most likely, you have an object in the deviceobj that did not get removed when you deleted the object out of NSM. You will need to have root access via CLI to get into the database. And you should be very comfortable with a vi-type atmosphere.

I’m having the same problem. Is there a way to purge the database to remove any Serial Number entries? I currently have zero devices added, yet I still get the same error.
7800 is from device to nsm (if it is a screenos device)
7801 is from client to nsm
7803 is from device to nsm (if it is a idp standalone device)
7804 is from device to nsm (if it is a ex switch)
I should now that from top of head but I allways mix them up 7800 is from nsm client to server 7802 from device to device server on NSM? It’s late here, so look the ports up your self please but beware not everything runs on 7800!
Here is the error on the device: Reason 5, Incomplete write
I thought that but there is traffic going through port 7800.
Can be lot of things but maybe firewall in between blocks nsm port ? That’s a WKE (Well Known Error :-D)
I tried adding another device and the error message I got on the device is “Cannot connect to NSM server at 10.x.x.x Reason: 2 local application level timeout”
Yep device is allready in DB under other name……
